If you are struggling with hair loss, you have probably considered a hair transplant.
After a certain age, most men lose their hair because of genetic reasons. However, as cosmetic medicine has developed significantly over the last few years, many hair plant treatment methods exist.
There are many hair transplants, and all have a high success rate, depending on how the body accepts the changes produced after hair plantation.
What is hair transplantation?
Hair transplantation or hair restoration is a surgery that moves the back and neck follicles to fill a bald area.
There are two types of hair transplants, follicular unit strip surgery (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE).
FUT consists of removing a 6 to 10-inch from the back of the head and sewing it onto the scalp after dividing it into 500 to 2000 tiny grafts (each has an individual or just a few hairs).
The number of the hair depends on the hair type, quality, and area size from where you get the transplant.
The doctor removes hair follicles from the donor area for the FUE process. Depending on the number of grafts, the surgery can take up to eight hours.
You might consider another procedure later if you continue to lose hair or decide you want thicker hair.
The recovery process
After the surgery, your scalp may be susceptible. “Is hair restoration painful?” is a ubiquitous question among patients.
You may need to take painkillers for several days to fight against inflammation, not against severe pain.
Hair restoration recovery is easy and quick. You may wear bandages for 24 hours and take some antibiotics for several days to protect the open areas against infections.
Most people return to work 2 to 5 days after the operation.
Hair transplant side effects
The most common side effect is scarring, but one cannot avoid this with any procedure.
However, it passes over time, leaving no marks. Other side effects may include infections, crust or pus drainage around the surgical sites, inflammation of hair follicles, bleeding, scalp pain, and itching, losing sensation around the surgical site, or continuing to lose hair if your hair is still balding.
However, if you have ever wondered, “Is hair transplant safe?” you should understand that risks occur only if professional surgeons in maximum hygiene conditions do not make the procedure.
How much does a hair transplant cost?
A hair transplant can be costly. In most countries, the price is set according to the number of grafts transplanted.
That is why in the UK or USA, the price of a hair transplant starts from 3000 euros and can reach 15000 euros per session.
In Turkey, we set the price according to the surgery, not the number of follicles.
However, the final cost depends on the surgical technique chosen, the surgeon’s experience, and the necessary medications.
HayatMed, located in Istanbul, is highly experienced in performing Hair Transplant Surgery surgeries with satisfactory results, according to our patients’ evaluations.
